Racer Update Email

Hello Registered Runner-
The Sleepy Hollow Mountain Race is a day away and we look forward to seeing you at Sleepy Hollow!  We have a couple of important updates about the race.

Mud Season Watch: Road Condition Alert

Important Notice:  While we are doing all kinds of sun & wind dances here, mud season is still underway in Huntington.  Sherman Hollow Road and the Sleepy Hollow driveway are both unpaved, dirt roads.  The frost heaves are still heaving under these roads and it has been relentlessly raining leading to soft road surfaces, deep ruts, and large surface irregularities.  There is a risk of bottoming out along portions of these two roads.  4-wheel drive cars and cars with a greater clearance are recommended.  (2wd drive cars with drivers experienced with these road conditions may be able to get up the driveway and should be ok on Sherman Hollow Rd.)  We may relocated some parking to the area down at the base of the Sleepy Hollow driveway, so please keep in mind that a little extra time to walk up from your parking space (up to a 1/2 mile) may be necessary.  The best way to help this situation is to have as few cars as necessary.  Please carpool!  Read the rest of the info about roads and carpooling.
USATF #s and scoring for USATF NE-Mtn Campionships

This is a reminder that the Sleepy Hollow Mtn Race will also serve as the USATF-NE Mountain Championships.  To score in the championship you need to have a current USATF membership.  The 2014 Membership numbers start with a “1”.  If you have a number that starts with an ‘8’, “7” or ‘6’, that’s an old number and you need to renew your membership before the race on Sunday.  Bring your new number to the race and we will have an update for you to fill out.

If you have a new USATF number please email Paul Krisch (pkirsch2@gmail.com) and he will update the registration list.  The email Subject: USATF #.  Include your first and last name and 2014 USATF #.

Here are a couple links that will help you determine your USATF number status.
1.  Look up your membership number: https://www.usatf.org/membership/reports/events/index.asp   (if no result returns, it means you do not have a current membership)
2.  Renew or join:  http://www.usatf.org/Products—Services/Individual-Memberships.aspx

Directions to Sleepy Hollow

Pre Registered Runner List—We will also post a start list at sleepyhollowmtnrace.com on Saturday afternoon.

Course Condition Update

Northwest Vermont has been rainy and wet for the past several weeks.  We expect this weather trend to continue through race day.  Most of the course is soggy interspersed with dry areas.  The single track is actually in pretty good condition.   Course Maps/Info  and NOAA Huntington, VT weather link

Water Station
There will be two water stations providing water and sports drink at 1 mile, 3 mile and 4 mile.  Note that the water station at 3 mile is at the same place as the 1 mile water station.  At 3 mile it is on a downhill and can be challenging to access.  The 4 mile water station is in the field with the lap and finish.

Staying at Sleepy Hollow
The Inn is fully booked with a wedding this weekend.  The wedding has reserved all of Sleepy Hollow through Sunday morning, so there is no camping at Sleepy Hollow this year. Other close towns to stay in include, Shelburne, Williston and Waterbury (depending on the direction you are traveling from). Click here for other ideas about places to stay.

Fun Awards
In addition to all the usual suspects, such as “age group” and “first to the finish line”, we have come up with a few more competitive opportunities including Muddiest Finisher and King of the Mountain Preme. Click here for more info.

Staying Connected
We will post results and links to race photos online after the race at  https://sleepyhollowmtnrace.com/  and on our Facebook page.
