For anyone who lives in the area, Kasie and Liz will be hosting a course preview and trail work afternoon this Sunday starting at 2:00pm. You can either run the course, hike the course, or simply go to sections of the course that need a little extra TLC. If you’re feeling very ambitious, you could do all three!
The race is 3 loops, so running a portion of the course is also very feasible. Trail work will mostly involve flagging, marking potential tripping hazards, raking and rerouting a couple of the muddier sections, and making note of any final work that needs to be done by Kasie over the course of the next week! It’s good to have extra sets of eyes on the course ahead of time. We will provide tools, but if you have some of your own that you like, they’re probably better than ours.
Come on out, bring a friend. The weather looks perfect! And apologies for the late notice. 🙂
Are you wondering if your running friends or fiercest competitors are registered for the race? Do you want to make sure you are on the list or are you are looking for a friend to carpool to the race with? Check out the pre registered runner list.
The race numbers are printed and on their way! We choose green because we are trying to make this a green race. Thanks to some great things that Sleepy Hollow has done in the past several years the race is a very green event.

Carpooling– We encourage all racers, volunteers and spectators to carpool. There are many great park and ride parking lots throughout Vermont- even if you only ride together for the last couple miles of your trip try meeting some running friends at the Richmond park and ride. Click Here to see a map of where to park.
Recycling and Composting– We will have compost buckets at the post race food tables. Please compost your fruit peels and other organic material.
Bring your own pins– You have probably raced before, so please bring pins to reuse for your race number. We will have plenty of extra if you forget your own.

Mothers… I can think of no better way to spend Mother’s Day then running a mountain race! There will be special prizes for you too!
Husbands/Fathers/Sons/Daughters… Treat the mother in your life to a fun and relaxing outing! Hint: Don’t leave the kids at home (unless you have a baby-sitter who is not a mother). Sleepy Hollow is very family friendly complete with resident kids, a swing set, a froggy pond, and lots of open space for running around.
Romantic Types... Love is in the air at Sleepy Hollow. 8 bedroom Inn, sauna, rustic cabin, peaceful scenery.
Local Attractions… Still rather spend your Mother’s Day doing something else? With a 9:00am start time there will be lots of time post-race for brunching and enjoying the sites. See below for ideas:

Email info@skisleepyhollow.com now for Inn & cabin reservations (there is not usually anyone at the phone this time of year). No need to reserve a tent space, just check in at the front desk when you arrive). Details below:

Simply request a time for your sauna, and we’ll have it hot for you (holds up to eight). We offer free wireless internet to our guests, available around the Inn and Round Barn Event Center. Our down-to-earth, friendly, and comfortable inn also features our two guest living rooms. One has a large fieldstone fireplace, while the other has ample reading couches.

**New** There are now 4 freshly built lean-tos next to Molly’s Meadow! First come, first serve on race weekend.
The start/finish area of the race is located at Molly’s Meadow, an open grassy field well suited to tent camping as well as a pavilion (wooden platform under roof cover). You are welcome to bring a tent and set-up camp. If you choose a spot in the actual start/finish zone you may need to “move out” before the race starts. Bathroom and shower facilities at the Inn will be available for your use.
$15/tent. No need to call for reservations, just check in at the Inn upon arrival.
In addition to all the usual suspects, such as “age group” and “first to the finish line”, we have come up with a few more competitive opportunities:
1.) Our race is on Mother’s Day, therefore a special award will go to the fastest mom of the day. Go moms! (Note: Kasie will not be in the running)
2.) Battle of the States: We all know that the Green Mountain State has the best mountain runners in New England. To provide proof, there will be a new team competition at this year’s race. The rules are as follows: Top 3 Open M + Open F + Masters M + Masters F from each of the New England States will be combined (based on time) and bragging rights will be awarded. Until next year… Trash talking encouraged.
3.) King of the Mountain Preme: The first Male and Female to reach the course’s high point at the top of Loop 1, Adirondack View, will win a King of the Mountain prize. *You must finish the race.
Registration is now open for the 2012 Sleepy Hollow Mountain Race: Link to Registration
Spring is in the air (Although we wouldn’t mind a little more snow first)!
Looking forward to seeing you in May!
Kasie & Liz
There is snow on the ground today at Sleepy Hollow and we are in the planning stages for the Sleepy Hollow Mtn Race. This race is part of the USATF New England Mtn Running series and the first time the series has been hosted in northern Vermont.
As we get more information about the details of the event we will post them here, so check back through the winter.
See you in Vermont on May 13!
Kasie and Liz
